Job Details
This posting is designed to attract applicants for potential upcoming sessional positions with Workforce Development in the area of skilled trades. Successful candidates will be expected to do the following:

  • Innovate, develop and deliver courses and labs related to pre-trades courses;
  • Engage students in the classroom and lab environment, ensuring learner awareness of curriculum and evaluation of learning;
  • Provide a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources based on the cooperative learning theory while incorporating a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet various learning styles;
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement;
  • Actively contribute to student success;
  • Assist, advise, coach and mentor students with course choices, career possibilities and opportunities to continue their education at the advanced degree level;
  • Lead, participate in and contribute to special events, consultative committees and program and course curriculum design and revisions;
  • Champion the development of customized training and educational programs in collaboration with public and private sector partners; and
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Job Requirements

A detailed description of responsibilities per the classification definition of Professor is available in the Academic Collective Agreement (http://www.thecouncil.on.ca/). This position involves up to 36 weeks of assigned contact per academic year and may be in any of three semesters at the College’s discretion and may include weekend work.

Candidates must possess the following:
  • A valid Certificate of Qualification in a specified area of Skilled Trades
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in a leadership role including experience related to supervision of apprentices, students or trainees
  • Expertise and progressively responsible experience in the applicable disciplines;
  • Thorough knowledge of current safety standards;
  • Expertise and progressively responsible experience in their trade, apprenticeship model and modular training; and
  • A commitment to education equity to teach diverse student populations and work with colleagues or clients from various backgrounds.

The preferred candidate will have:
  • Experience working in a First Nation community;
  • The ability to maintain and develop community, industry and government contacts;
  • Previous teaching or training experience at a postsecondary level;
  • A current professional affiliation;
  • Proven ability to excel in a team environment and a demonstrated commitment to life-long learning;
  • Previous experience including innovative classroom presentation techniques;
  • A degree or diploma in Education and/or expertise in both stand-up delivery and distributed learning; and
  • A Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline or in Education.
Additional experience in some of the following areas would be an asset:
Alternative delivery strategies, student success strategies, academic advising, adult learning theories, and educational applications of computer technologies.
